No page builders. Fast on mobile. One real person on email. Built for the contractor checking his phone at the job site.
No WordPress. No Squarespace runtime. Nothing sitting between your customer and your content.
No database calls. Real PageSpeed scores, not the kind agencies show you once.
Email or call a person. Not a ticket queue, not a chatbot, not a “success manager.”
What happens after you say hello.
I'm Matt Mueller, a one-person web designer in Knoxville. Every step below is me: the planning call, the design, the build, and the edits after launch. No handoffs, no account managers.
Process
Hello → Live
We talk through the project
You tell me about the business, what's working, what's not, and what the site needs to do. No forms, just a real conversation.
I map out the site
Pages, content, calls to action, and structure. Organized before any build work starts. You see the plan before I write a line of code.
I design, build & you review
Hand-coded HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Fast and built around your actual business. You get a private preview link before anything goes live: click around on your phone, send notes, request changes. I don't launch until you're ready.
I launch and keep it running
Deployment, DNS, analytics, and ongoing edits depending on your plan. After launch you email me. I take care of it.
OngoingWhat you skip when
there's no platform.
Page builders are tools. They also come with overhead you pay for every month, in speed, security, and maintenance. Here's what a hand-coded static site doesn't have.
- Monthly platform fees on top of hosting
- Plugin updates that break things
- Security patches you have to apply
- Template constraints you design around
- Bloated scripts that slow every page
- CMS portal logins to manage content
- One flat monthly fee, all-in
- Zero plugins, nothing to break
- Static files, no attack surface
- Custom design built for your business
- Lean code, real PageSpeed scores
- Email me, I handle the edits

New website,
start to finish.
Custom-coded site built to launch: design, build, hosting, and launch support. About four weeks start to end.

& rebuild
You already have a site. It's slow, dated, or held together with plugins. I rebuild it on clean HTML and migrate the content.

Q.01
Do I own the site if I'm on the monthly plan?
No. The monthly plan is a service, not a purchase on layaway. I design, build, host, and maintain the site, and it stays with me: as long as you're on the plan it's cared for, and if you stop paying, the site comes down. Your domain name and your content are yours from day one, and they leave with you. Cancel inside the first twelve months and you owe the rest of the build cost: the lump-sum price of your site ($3,800 for a standard five-pager) minus what you've paid so far. Prefer to pay once? That's the lump-sum plan: $3,800, and the site is yours to keep. Host it anywhere, nothing more owed to me.
Q.02
Why don't you build on WordPress?
WordPress is powerful but it comes with a plugin ecosystem, update cycle, and security surface that's overkill for most small business sites. A hand-coded static site loads faster, costs less to maintain, and is harder to break.
Q.03
How do edits work after launch?
Email me. On the monthly plan, edits are included: hours, photos, prices, whatever. I reply within one business day, and most edits go live soon after. On the lump-sum plan, edits are $95/hr, or add unlimited edits for $50/mo with a three-month minimum. A brand-new page is separate on either plan: one-time $100 per page.
Q.04
How long does a website take?
About four weeks from kickoff to launch for a standard site. That includes a planning call, the build, a deploy preview for your review, and going live. Larger projects can take longer. I'll give you a realistic timeline before we start.
Q.05
What does website design cost in Knoxville?
Small business website design at Clear Springs runs $0 down and $175 a month: design, build, hosting, and unlimited edits in one flat rate, with a 12-month minimum. Prefer to pay once? $3,800 one-time, plus $25 a month for hosting. Ecommerce builds on Shopify are quoted per project and start at $8,000.
